The plan was simple. Find Itachi. Kill him.
Instead, Sasuke gets dragged out of a fight he was about to finish, stuck with a brother who interferes without explaining why, an Akatsuki partner who finds the whole situation far too amusing, and a team that definitely did not sign up for any of this.
No one is where they’re supposed to be.
No one is saying what they should.And the more Sasuke pushes for answers, the more it starts to feel like the only thing Itachi is still committed to… is keeping his distance.

Sasuke realized, now, that he’d never be free. Honestly, though it had taken over ten years to admit to himself, he didn’t want to be free.
How many times had they fought, stalemates, only for Naruto to come after him again and again?
And then, one last battle, one last chance to break the bond, to finally, finally, be free of his last strand of dependence on another person to make him happy. And another stalemate.
They’d lain there, bleeding so much, there had been so much blood, and Naruto had talked the whole time. Told Sasuke about his life in Konoha, the life he’d been so sure was over. Sasuke had ached at the words, guilt (not for the first time) tinging the ends of his consciousness.
He’d wanted to give up, to let the darkness carry him away to his death, but then Naruto had murmured, blurrily and almost too quiet to hear (but when it came to Naruto, Sasuke would always be listening): “But I love you, asshole. You can’t die without knowing that. You can’t die without me. Can’t ever go anywhere without me ever again.” And Sasuke’s world had filled with a light, a hope that he’d never allowed himself to feel

Summary
Ever since the end of the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke has been wondering. Returning to the Leaf was the last thing he wanted to do, and without anywhere else to go, he was forced to just walk.
He did just that. It wasn't bad. Boring maybe, but everything felt boring after what he'd been through.
He would've kept walking too if he hadn't encountered a familiar Raven haired man that shouldn't have been alive. One that he'd seen die twice already. One who didn't remember Sasuke at all.

Summary
Itachi gingerly places his hand atop Sasuke’s and asks in a kind voice, “Why did you kiss me?"
"Because.” He stops for a hairsplitting second, looks up at him and how the night sky cradles his head and his black hair. “Because when you were bandaging my wounds it felt like my skin would melt, even if you acted like your slightest touch would burn me. Don’t think I didn’t notice, but what you didn’t seem to realize was that I wanted to burn at that moment, Itachi.” Sasuke licks his lips and whispers, “Still do."
There was an implicit don’t reject me thrown underneath the actual statement. His little brother’s eyes are alight with hope when Itachi doesn’t turn away from him as if this was permission to kiss him again and again.
