Healy sighs at the man. “It’s not psychic, I’ve just been around Holly long enough now to get a pretty good read on her. And you, might I add.”
March glares at him, but neither of them bring up the first time they met, and Healy had been able to tell. He knew, and March knew he knew, and for the longest five seconds of Holland’s life he’d been pinned down in his own goddamn kitchen by the first Alpha he’d had physical contact with since his wife died. Healy just breaking his arm had almost been a relief at that point.
Holland March is an Omega, and his business partner that he only has the most professional relationship with is an Alpha. Even though neither of them have mates, that is absolutely not a problem, because, again, Holland March is a consummate professional. And he doesn’t go into heat anymore. Summary
In 1979, things are coming along for the March-Healy household quite nicely. (Get it, Nicely). But when Holland and Jackson answer a mysterious summons from a university professor, they are once again embroiled in intrigue and death. This time they are a long way from home, with no friendly faces to help them out – well, except maybe one. Will the Nice Guys be able to tell friend from foe, or will they be swept up in the avalanche heading their way?
A/N: This work is complete and will be updated roughly every three days. Since posting my first work in the Nice Guys fandom, I have wanted to do a longer-style fic for them. Literallyawolf commented that they wanted to see a longer fic too, and I guess I may as well give it a go!(Disclaimer: I do not own The Nice Guys (2016) and am making no money from this fic. I have also chosen to use the names of real people for fun historical references. I do not suggest that the views, actions, and opinions of the RLCs mirror the people in reality. Blackmail. Illegal porn. Undercover at a gay bar. The Nice Guys sure are at it again.
“Porn? I can throw a rock in this neighborhood and I’m gonna break the window of a porn store.”
March gestured anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Healy paused. “Ohhhhh. The nasty stuff. Whips and handcuffs. Girls and animals.”
“Close,” March said, grimacing. He really, really didn’t want to have to explain this. “Think more like…. Disco.”
“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”
For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.
Incriminating.
