Summary
Robin Arellano survives the basement and both him and Finney make it out of that hellish place.
But they’re still not free.
Both of them now have to deal with trauma of what happened down there, trying to keep their heads above water while everyone else swims along easily. Finney fears he’ll never be able to shake off the basement, and that he’ll end up like his father. And Robin worries he won’t be able to protect his little brother forever. He can barely even protect himself.
Robin and Finney are broken and splintered like the reflection of a shattered mirror, but maybe, if they let other people help them, they can glue themselves back together again.

I didn’t like how tbp 2 ended and I thought it was unfair how only Gwen got a call even though Finn’s like the main character and how the whole talking to the dead through the phone started with him and after everything he’s been through he deserves to talk to someone he misses so I fixed it.

Ilya hums, playing the card he's been considering for this entire conversation. “We could make more interesting, yes? A bet.”
“A bet,” Shane repeats, eyes flashing. “Like what?”
The reporter cuts in. “What about wearing the other player’s jersey?”
They both turn to her, and Shane says, “Like, the loser wears the winner’s jersey?”
“Maybe at the next game in a couple of months?”
“Is a good idea,” Ilya muses, nudging Shane’s elbow. “You will look better in my jersey than in Montreal jersey.”
Shane makes a low noise, his eyes holding a bit of a spark when he looks back to Ilya. It’s what Ilya was hoping for—the tiniest crack in the mask. He can see a hint of exasperated affection around the corners of Shane’s eyes, a little bit of fire burning just beneath the surface. It sends a thrill down Ilya’s spine, and he wonders if Shane will be snarky when Ilya gets him naked tonight.
“That’s not happening,” Shane replies, shaking his head. “Because you’re not winning.”

"Oh." Hollander has gone a little red, beneath his freckles. "I am from… French Canada? Québec? Do you know? Very… very small town there, no English, only French. I try to learn, but— is a bit hard."
Ilya feels mildly stupid. He knew, obviously, that they speak French in Canada, but he didn’t know it was, like— some people’s only language. He’d sort of assumed everyone was fluent in both.
"Huh. Cool."
"Your English is very good," Hollander offers.
Ilya laughs.
"I mean, yeah— I grew up in Minneapolis."

Ilya is at this cafe, about a 10-minute walk from his hotel, waiting in line to get his hazelnut latte around 6:45 am. When he is just looking around the store, he could swear he sees Shane Hollander slumped over at a table in the back. He doesn't put much thought into it because, firstly, Shane Hollander would never be caught dead getting coffee; it affects his stupidly perfectionist diet he is on, and secondly, he would never fall asleep in a public place like this. He is too anxious and health crazed to do that, not even minding his “boring” uptightness.
Or: Shane and Ilya are both struggling with the new pressures of being the NHL's top draft picks, plus Shane is slowly learning how to speak and understand English while only ever speaking French before.
