Summary
In the spring of 2017 three things happened that changed Sam Wilson’s life forever: First, the Accords were dissolved and all related “crimes” committed prior to their repeal were sealed and the sentences commuted. Second, one James “Bucky” Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier), came out of Cryo, was successfully deprogrammed, and chose to live with one Steven Grant Rogers (aka Captain America) as he tried to make his way in the brave new world. Third, Samuel Thomas Wilson (aka The Falcon) fell in love with Bucky Barnes. This wouldn’t ordinarily be of note, save for the fact that he was already in love (and living in glorious sin with) the previously mentioned Steve Rogers.
Oh, and there’s also the small matter of how Sam handles his post-mission adrenaline drop. (Hint: he doesn’t.)

Summary
Steve goes back to 1945, saves Bucky from HYDRA, and builds a life with him and Peggy. It's supposed to be everything he wanted.
In 2024, Sam and Bucky do their mourning, leaning on each other, and begin trying to face a world without Steve in it. Until a different Steve Rogers materializes in the middle of New York, very confused, having just crashed the Valkyrie.

When Sam said he'd follow Steve, he'd meant it. The two of them chased Bucky Barnes halfway across the States, taking HYDRA bases along the way. But it wasn't until Steve left, did Bucky make his presence known.
Or: Sam is more than happy to help heal the Winter Soldier. In fact, Bucky might be filling a hole in his life that he didn't know needed filling. Those who fly are always destined to fall, but he can't, not for Bucky. Especially when he may have feelings for Steve...
Or: Bucky doesn't know who he is anymore. But Sam says he doesn't have to know. Bucky likes Sam.
Or: Steve misses D.C. and Sam like hell. He knows Bucky will come in from the cold.

“Are you two drunk?” he asks, and Sam laughs, blushes enough to confirm it. Bucky gasps, just a little, and Steve narrows his eyes a little more. “Are you fucking?” Bucky giggles, something that turns into a breathy sigh halfway through, and god, they are, they're drunk and fucking and Steve was at work, it's not fair, they are the worst.
“It was Sam's idea,” Bucky tells him, and Sam brings his hand up from under the covers, smacks him lightly in the shoulder.
“The fort was my idea. Drinking and fucking, that was all you, Barnes.”
