No matter how hard he tried, Sebastian couldn't pinpoint the moment he'd fallen in love with Sam. It came over him slowly, like the changing of seasons. One day you're wearing a t-shirt while your best friend drags you to yet another beach party, the next you notice the leaves are falling, and a faint scent of cinnamon lingers in the air whenever you pass the Saloon. For Sebastian, falling in love was like that: one day he and Sam were playing video games in his basement bedroom, the next, the sparkle in Sam's eyes when he won the latest round of Plumber Kart made his heart skip a beat.
But he never said anything, of course.

The cake had five candles, and for a second, the tiny flames were the brightest things in the world.
I remember the smell of my mom’s perfume—something sweet like vanilla, not the sour, sharp scent of clearing spirits that would come later. She didn’t have the tired lines around her eyes yet. When she leaned down to help me blow out the candles, her hair brushed my cheek, and she whispered that I was her "brave little man."
My dad was there, too. He wasn't a shadow or a shout back then. He was big and solid, with hands that felt like warm blankets when he lifted me onto his shoulders. He laughed—a real, deep sound that filled our small kitchen—and promised we’d go to the park to fly the kite he’d bought me.
I didn't know about "Socs" or "Greasers" then. I didn't know that some people lived on the North side and some on the South. To me, the world was just the circle of light from that kitchen lamp, my mom’s soft singing, and my dad’s hand ruffle through my hair.
I fell asleep that night feeling completely safe. I didn't know it was the last time I’d ever feel that way without looking over my shoulder. I didn't know the dark was coming; I just knew I was loved.

But, there was a slight issue - His development of an unbearable crush on the town's resident straight-boy-jock. It was too stereotypical, too out of reach.

Summary
This is essentially a direct sequel to the events of the book, written in Pony's first person POV. It's set in a timeline where Dallas and Johnny each meet a different fate, and we see Ponyboy deal with the way his life and relationships are changing. Including finally acting on his feelings for Johnny. Its not primarily a ship fic, though. That's just a little treat.
Anyway, this first chapter just follows Pony visiting Johnny two-ish months after the fire.
