“Can I try?” Ed’s voice breaks the silence, morning-rough but hushed and soft. Stede swirls around, looking close to scandalized with his eyes big and mouth shaping a little o.
“What?! But you-“ Stede clears his throat, mouth twitching a bit. “I mean, if you…” he continues, eyes darting from Ed’s beard to his twinkling eyes, which crinkle with laughter.
Ed’s laughter rumbles, head thrown back and his hand patting his own steadily growing (and greying) beard. It’s not as long as it used to be yet, but it’s softer now, from lavender soap and all sorts of creams Stede shares with him. “I’m not gonna shave, I wanna try on you, mate.”
