Summary
Lohen comes back to a scene that warms something in the depths of his frozen heart.
Varka is there, front and center, fingers gripping a tankard tightly. His cheeks are painted a shade of red that only someone who's had too many drinks can have—his laughter rings the loudest amongst everyone in the camp, and his usual attire's been shed for something more modest. Just a plain long sleeved black shirt with a deep neckline; the collar unbuttonned loosely without a care in the world, and plain beige pants with its hems fraying at the seams.
Like this, Lohen thinks, Varka is a walking reminder of what Mondstadt is—what home is.
He could stare at him forever like this, that wide grin etched onto the back of his eyelids—forever remembered, the same way the permafrost kept everything inside it contained as it was all those years ago.
or, Lohen and Varka have the closest thing to a heart-to-heart conversation the night before Lohen leaves Nod-Krai. Varka is a damn good liar, and he thinks Lohen knows that.

Stupidly, Varka said, “I’ve—heard about you.”
“Have you now? And what does everyone say?”
That you’re vicious. That you take pleasure in provoking the court. That peace bores you, and that you crave a good fight the way drowning sailors crave air. Varka gazed up into Lohen’s face, and the memory of the most famous rumour struck him like a punch to the throat. That you’re beautiful.
Right then, looking up at the Crown Prince he’d soon be swearing his life to protect, Varka could only say with complete and total confidence that one of those was true.
Crown Prince Lohen of Mondstadt is unruly, devious, and the most alluring person Varka’s ever known—and Varka is sure that serving as his knight will be the death of him one day.
