La verità, se ne rende conto solo ora, è che in queste lunghe settimane di preparazione aveva atteso la partita con Carlos. Inconsciamente aveva dato per scontato che si sarebbero scontrati di nuovo. Ma non lo pensa con la presunzione di chi, convinto di essere il migliore, sottovaluta i suoi avversari. La verità è che giocare contro Carlos gli piace parecchio, gli è sempre piaciuto, e nel silenzio notturno della camera può finalmente ammetterlo a sé stesso.
