Summary
After saving Grace and nearly dying in an alien atmosphere, Rocky lays an egg before going dormant.
Turns out being isolated for years and then nearly dying will force biological imperatives onto injured Eridians, and this one leaves Ryland Grace utterly baffled.
Aren't Eridians supposed to lay eggs in clutches? Only fused eggs are supposed to be viable, but when Grace accidentally touches the egg with his bare skin while trying to save it, that's apparently all the genetic fusion required for life to begin.
Ryland Grace skips a few steps when it comes to making a baby, and I test the limits of Eridian biology.

Summary
"Grace stay with Rocky forever, question?"
Uh—well, not really, I want to say, maybe my forever. Like a family pet—here for a portion of Rocky's life and gone in the next. Except there's no human humane society for Rocky to get a new me from. Not unless the science Eridians can make an interstellar highway to Earth. That'd be neat.
But that's if there even is an Earth by then. For all I know George and Ringo ran out of fuel prematurely and are suspended in the middle of space, two ugly alien objects that nobody will know hold what could have saved an entire planet from another ice age.
That'd suck. Both for humanity and Rocky. Then I'd really be irreplaceable.
Grace forgets to tell Rocky about the average human lifespan. It comes up again on their flight to Erid.

We both know that they are not going to sleep. We both know that the moment they go still, they will be dead. And I will be alone. But I won’t say that, and they won’t say that, even if it’s the truth.
“You…save Erid,” they say.
Not a question.
I will be the last Eridian on our ship. I will be the last hope.
Or I will die. Just like every other Eridian has died here, and will eventually die on Erid, because we failed.
I shift low, close to where my last friend lays. “You sleep, I will watch,” I tell them again.
And they go to sleep.
And they never wake up again.
Rocky loses everyone on his crew.
Years later, he meets an alien.

Summary
Missing scene from the book of Rocky finding out how old Grace is, from Rocky’s perspective.
Grace has mentioned that he is a scientist as well as a teacher to human children. On Erid, only our Elders would step down from their purpose to impart their knowledge on the next generation. Grace must be very old indeed to become a teacher, and to be chosen for this mission.
