“I said,” Merlin enunciates, rolling his eyes. He gets a knee over Arthur’s thigh, pressing it into the mattress and fixing the perch of his glasses. “What’s wrong with my glasses?”
Arthur gapes at him, before dropping onto his pillow with a sigh as he stares up at the ceiling. What has this night come to? He was supposed to go over his report and then sleep. And then came Merlin, complaining about the fucking water pressure, dripping wet and smelling like that with his low slung pyjamas and utter lack of respect for Arthur’s sanity, taking over his mind and night. Arthur can’t have one second of peace.

Arthur notices Merlin smells nice. He then can’t stop noticing and nearly loses his mind about it.

“I wouldn’t touch the Major Arcana.” Arthur startled, nearly dropping the cards. He whirled around to the voice. “They get twitchy.”
An ornamental crystal ball fell onto the floor behind him, shattering into millions of tiny pieces.
Behind him was a man, probably near Arthur’s age. He registered the wide, bright eyes, pale skin, and dark hair. Arthur hadn’t heard him approach. Where did he come from?
“The—” Arthur’s eyes jumped back to the magician card, “Major Arcana?”
That sounded sort of... magicky
“Yes, yes, they get so full of themselves.” The man’s lips twitched, and Arthur was inexplicably drawn to the hint of his grin.
Or, a lot can happen when you take cover under a random shop's awning. Mostly, Arthur just wants to figure out why 'The Magician' card is always his future.

But being in such proximity to his friends’ happy relationship makes him realise how much he has missed being touched and held the way they do for each other. “Pull yourself together, Arthur,” Morgana tells him, “it’s the end of the world.”

Arthur, who's just as infuriatingly lovable as Merlin remembers, and also very confused as to why he's suddenly meeting the strange man that has been appearing in his dreams of medieval castles and faraway lands for as long as he can remember. Can Merlin manage to show Arthur what his dreams mean and make him remember?
