Summary
Izzy's warm hand on Lucius' cheek is unexpected, but it pulls him back out of his own head. "You're really not having a laugh, are you?" he asks quietly enough not even Buttons would dare to listen in.
"There are dangerous men in this port." Lucius feels like he's pulling words through the top of a poorly-bored hole in a frozen lake with nothing but his teeth. "That's all."
"What, worse than me?"
Lucius knows he should laugh. "Yes." Izzy's thumb slides over Lucius' cheekbone, and for a terrifying moment, Lucius thinks he's going to choose now to finally kiss him, as if Lucius hasn't been screaming at him to do it in everything but semaphore for weeks. "Very much so," he tacks on, just in case the first yes was drowned out by the blood pounding in his ears. "No offense meant."

To protect Jim, Izzy puts himself into a Situation only Lucius knows how to rescue him from. Unfortunately, that means finally facing and coming to terms with all the ghosts from his past in Port Royal.

Mike hummed thoughtfully. “Didn’t know ghosts could do that. Our lot are stuck in the grounds of the house, right?”
“Yeah,” she said, chewing on her lip. “I guess it’s not exactly a science, is it? I mean, a lot of the ghosts I see out and about are sort of… uncommunicative. Maybe there’s lots of different types of them.”
“Like Pokemon,” said Mike.

Summary
It's easy to forget that Alison and Mike are still alive. That they can die in cruel and painful ways, and that they will not always be there forever with the ghosts. That one day, Alison will die, and the ghosts will be alone again.
Still, the possibility has always seemed far-fetched, hidden on the horizon. Their ship has been sailing towards it for years upon years, but still...
They have reached the end of the world. All is gone. A slow flame burns away at their sanity. They have gained so much and lost so much. Is it even possible to take any more?
Slowly, slowly, they come to the end of the world... and they begin to fall.
