No... Steve didn't have a girlfriend, he had a fiancee. Some pretty greaser girl he'd fallen head over heels for. Soda's stomach twisted whenever he thought about her. As time went on, the innocent crush Soda once felt had developed into an aching in his lungs. The simple decision to stay where he was let Steve Randle slip away. At first it was only a sting, but day after day, news after news, the reality of his best friend leaving became a constant fire in Soda.
