Summary
The figure in the chair shifted, turning just enough for Garraty to get a clearer view. The other boy was leaning slightly forward in the chair, his legs drawn up to his chest, his chin resting on his right knee. He studied Garraty with a kind of patient curiosity, the kind one displays when solely focused on observing what the other person intends to do next, and upon hearing the younger boy's words, he tilted his head slightly.
And at that moment, there was hardly any doubt about any of it. It made no sense, not really, and yet it seemed to be the truth. Stebbins could not be here. Yet, as he sat there beside him, huddled in the chair, in the pale, soft moonlight that gave the blond strands of hair an almost silvery sheen, he seemed just as real as Garraty himself was.
