Tim leans forward with his elbows on his knees. “Look, I’m not stupid. I know why I’m here. Everyone is overreacting, though. I’m really fine. Bruce is just paranoid.”
Brenda doesn’t react outwardly, but the space between her brows produces a faint wrinkle. “I think any parent would be worried to find out that their child has been cutting themselves.” Hearing it said so openly, like it’s a word that’s okay to use in real-life conversation makes Tim flinch.
Everyone else has been talking around it: Tim’s problem, or This situation. They never called it what it was because it’s not what they think it is. Tim isn’t doing anything more dangerous than what they all do every night. People get hurt sometimes; it’s an unavoidable part of life. Who cares if Tim has a few extra scars to go with the rest?

"Hi, Jason." The kid had the nerve to turn around and wave at him.
"What the fuck, Tim?!"
Tim Drake, his replacement, the ever so slightly crazed third Robin stood on the edge, looking down with an unsettling nonchalance. His Red Robin suit contrasted sharply with the dark sky, making him look like a misplaced bloodstain on a black canvas.
"I'm just trying to figure out if falling off this roof will send me back to where I belong," the kid said, as casual as if he were discussing the weather.
