He froze once he saw the shield.
It stared at him straight in the face. The paint that had once been glossy chipped with all of the damage it had taken, the white star in the middle staring dauntingly at him as it slid off of Steve's boxes and out of his closet, to land right at his feet.
"Sugar?" came Steve's voice, concerned with the racket that came from the living room. "Are you alright?"
He knelt down to pick up the shield, only realizing what it truly meant once it was in his hands.
Steve was Captain America. And Steve could, and probably would, snap his neck with his bare hands once he realized that he had discovered his secret.
