Summary
Phuwin doesn't believe in soulmates. Mostly because the universe apparently doesn't believe in him.
While everyone else gets ink blooming on their wrist at eighteen, Phuwin remains stubbornly, humiliatingly blank. He claims he doesn’t believe in the system, calling it archaic and fake. Pond, his best friend, agrees loudly... all while wearing a thick leather wristband he has refused to take off for seven years.
It all comes crashing down in the back of a taxi. The air grows thick, the silence too loud, until Phuwin finally snaps.
“Tell me, am I really that unlovable?” Phuwin’s voice cracks. “Don’t think I don’t know why you cover your wrists with that band. Who are they? You’re a coward for hiding it—just because you think I’m some miserable, soulmate-less charity case!”
Phuwin is convinced Pond is hiding his mark out of pity.
Phuwin is wrong.
