“Hey.” She steps inside and closes the door. She stays there, leaning against the door as her eyes try to sear every curve of his body, every hard line they can spot into her soul. She doesn’t care much for brains or bones, those will turn to dust the minute her shroud is buried, but her soul will remember. Her heartbeat doesn’t rise as it does around him, her body stills, like clay waiting to be molded. He doesn’t say anything, too, trying to understand what she needs, trying to not beg her to stay. She knows when he’s made up his mind when he decides that what she needs is a prayer.
