"Dice, spider?" she said with steadily amounting glee. Lace could never stoop to mortal vices, but that didn't mean she was completely ignorant. "How many could have guessed that Pharloom's illustrious saviour had a penchant for gambling?"
"I won them from a pilgrim during my ascent to the Citadel," Hornet said stiffly. It wasn't lost on Lace that she denied nothing about gambling. "They were of surprising utility."
What service they could have possibly provided her, Lace couldn't begin to fathom. Hornet was preternaturally lucky enough as it was. She rolled them in her palm, testing their heft. They were entertaining things to fidget with. She'd pull one an inch or so away from the cluster just to be able to feel it struggling to rejoin its comrades. The magnetic tension conveyed a want that went beyond speech. The inanimate could only ever experience a single form of desire; the type that was born when it lost a part of itself. For them, love and loss were one and the same.
Hornet and Lace embark on a pilgrimage.

Now residing in a kingdom possessed of a future, Hornet feels the weight of that welcome burden, lost to Hallownest. Unwilling to waste this chance, she turns her attention to aiding those long crushed under the Pale Monarch's will: the caretakers, the former pilgrims, and Pharloom's wayward knight. But the knight's attention rests on Hornet, in turn, and the once-princess may find her own wishes called into question.

Pharloom's recovery continues apace, though some of its wounds still run deep. Hesitant to leave but unsure why she might stay, Hornet continues to work towards its restoration, even as old allies prepare to depart. But others have arrived as well, lurking in the fallen kingdom's shadow, and in confronting them, Hornet must decide just how much of Pharloom she wishes to preserve, and how much of it she should carry with her.
