A product of Teru having too much fun jumping on the bed and not paying enough attention to where he was aiming. He had been annoyed when he realized they were jammed together, fully expecting the crooked one to flake off while he was sleeping. He might as well take it down now and move it.

    But Shigeo had peered up at the pair and his eyes had gone soft.

    Once upon a time, not long ago, there was an invisible boy. But not in an usual way. Whenever he vanished into crowds, everybody could see a bowlcut bobbing with each small step. People wouldn't notice him on the classroom, meek and quiet – except for the teacher whenever he was too sick to come. Everyone knew he sat alone for lunch and no one would join him, and it wasn't anyone's fault. He was just so easy to miss.

    Or maybe, he made himself seen in all the wrong ways.

    The invisible boy was named Shigeo Kageyama, and he was ten years old.
