Summary
A soul wasn't exactly what Spike had been looking for when he went around the world to Africa, but it's what he got, and now he has to figure out how to balance the two sides of himself; the penance his soul demands for deeds long done against the demon's desire for more. Spike can feel himself slipping deeper and deeper into the dark even as he tries to fight what he knows to be right.
He also has to contend with an ancient evil taking over his mind and the world, terrifying little girls, and smart-mouthed boys. Not to mention everyone would rather see him dead than accept his help. Or admit that he's changed.
How can he begin to be absolved of his guilt when they won't even let him try to atone?

That's a terrible summary... but it is how this story begins. It opens up a doorway for Xander's mom to begin repairing her relationship with her son. And speaking of relationships... what exactly is going on between her son and his vampire friend?
I promise this story is better than the summary.
