Summary
“Is it cause you used to have a crush on me?” Mike asked, abruptly.
“What!” It was Will’s turn to blush harder, giving him a glare reserved for Mike Wheeler and Mike Wheeler only. “No. God. That was ages ago. I’ve been past that for a long time.”
Mike motioned like he’d made his point. “See? So? It wouldn’t be weird.”
So, Mike likes guys. Fine, Will can live with that. Except now Mike's worried about having fallen behind and would really like some help practicing how to kiss a guy from his also-into-guys best friend. And Will is trying really, really hard to be a good mentor to him, so what is he going to do, say no?

Summary
Will felt really fucking stupid.
It felt like Spring break of 1986 once again. Will was so excited to see Mike again after almost a whole year, only to have everyone forget his birthday.
He still didn’t want to ruin what was supposed to be a happy day for Mike and his sister. But god, did it feel like shit. Obviously, his best friend and sister forgetting his birthday wasn’t a great feeling, but to him, Mike was much more than a best friend.
or
Will thinks Mike has forgotten his birthday again... until he gets back to their dorm room.

Summary
There was a buzzing sound, and a beep, before the same words sounded again:
“—all me back. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.”
Another buzz, then again: “—still here… anyway, call me back. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.”
Joyce realised with a terrible lurch to her heart that Will hadn’t called Mike. He wasn’t finally speaking to him again—it was a cassette tape. A cassette tape of Mike’s voice, a recording from what must’ve been the end of a missed phone call, and he was replaying Mike’s last sentence over and over. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.
When Joyce first saw Mike at five years old—a sweet, caring little thing, jumping to Will’s aid without a second thought—she’d never thought it would end up like this.
Or; Byler from Joyce’s perspective
