    Summary

Mel King was a creature of habit.

There was a specific sort of choreography to her life beyond the chaos of the Emergency Department. A carefully controlled routine, a color-coded calendar, a rigid set of rituals that kept her grounded enough to keep showing up day after day, to keep on doing the work that was required of her to save lives.

Everything was going fine for Mel. Her personal life was predictable, unexciting, and perfectly fulfilling, thank you very much.

Enter Frank Langdon, agent of chaos.

    Summary

That’s his bright spot, though—the thing he clings to on his first day, then continues to hold onto tightly thereafter: Mel.

Where he had felt out of step with everyone else, he and her were right on beat together, dancing around the ED, just as they had on her first day. He had been shocked how easily they picked up where they’d left off. There was no wariness towards him, no undercurrent of judgement, no hesitation to let him treat a patient. She didn’t hold him back, she pushed him forward. It was what he needed more than anything.

“—and I know that there’s Becca and Tanner and Millie to consider, but I was wondering if you maybe wanted to move in? Together? With me?”

Mel blinks. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s having a stroke.

“Frank, why would we move in together?”

“I thought it might be nice,” he shrugs here, acting nonchalant even though Mel can see the tension in his jaw. “To take that next step in our relationship.”

“Frank, what are you talking about? We’re not in a relationship?”

At this, Frank’s frown deepens before widening into a frustrated half smile. “Uh, yes we are? We’ve been dating for nine months?”

    What.

Or, Frank thinks Mel doesn’t do physical touch.
Or, Mel doesn’t realize they’ve been dating for nine months.

    Summary

“I think we should do this again,” Zuko says, stuffing his hands in his pockets and turning red. “The next debate. We hook up, no strings, just sex.”

Just sex bounces around in her brain. It is a bad idea, a prime example of a bad idea, but there is an undeniably appealing feeling in the thought of sleeping with Zuko again. Of seeing if yesterday was just a fluke. Of finding out if he is as good with his mouth as his hands.

“There’ll be a lot of stipulations,” Katara says, before she can finish thinking it through, “like, a lot. Get out a pen.”

Zuko makes a face, then shakes his head, just a little. “I’ll make a Word document.”

“Google. Google is better. Google doesn’t try to autocorrect my last name from Imaq to Iraq,” Katara says, and puts her headphones over her ears.

    Summary

"Normally, I only have to think of you reading my letters for my muse to alight upon my shoulder and guide my quill across the page. You said once that there is so much more to say than what one can put into a letter… tell me, Pen… do you have nothing to say? Have my letters missed the mark? Your silence is most unusual, and I cannot help but feel perplexed, as I cannot figure out what could possibly be keeping you from responding… twelve letters, Penelope… one, or two is an accident… twelve is a punishment."

Colin returns to London for the Season of 1815, hoping to reconnect with his friend Penelope - only to discover that everything has changed between them.
