They were no longer rookies, but they could both admit that it felt easier back then. More time to sneak around, less pressure on Mydei's shoulders in the face of carrying a small country's expectations on his back.
Not that Phainon felt he had it much easier. With fear of the public eye and desire for the other player warring it out inside of him, the question as to whether he should develop some self respect or take every opportunity he could get with him was getting tougher.
Awful, really, for someone so eager to please.

In her twenty years of life, Lumine hadn't known many emotions. She was angry, once– only once. Aether and her had been little, and he flipped the page of a book they were sharing too fast, so... Well, anyway, that emotion was corrected rather quickly. It was unbecoming of a princess. At least that was what her father said.
Tonight, in between a rock and a hard place (aka. the strange men trying to ship her off to a betrothed she'd never met and the blood-drenched maniac wearing a wolf's god damn face), that roster was expanding very quickly.
Over the next four months of sheer cold, it grew inexplicably broader. But starting tonight:

Childe loves to cook. In particular, for the people who really appreciate it. And when a worker from the company delivering goods to his restaurant keeps staring so pitifully at the kitchen every time, well, he just can't help himself.

Lumine stopped him with a simple gesture of her hand when he was about to remove her remaining shoe and raised the tip of her heel under his chiseled chin. "I need you to do an exceptional job tonight, Ajax."
His eyelids fluttered shut for a split second at the dangerous way she cooed his birth name. "Are you implying that my work is not always exceptional?"
"No, it is. But I need you to do even better than that." She moved her foot around his neck and took in a deep breath of the humid air before diverting from her formerly sweet tone. "Get on your knees."

Summary
Lumine was quite used to her body undergoing changes to acclimatize to whichever world her and Aether landed on– from growing body hair to the point of a soft fur, to a thin layer of scales covering their skins to withstand constant heat.
She'd thought she'd be spared of this in Teyvat. But without her twin by her side, and the lonelyness in her heart driving her deeper and deeper into the eleventh Harbinger's arms during the months that were meant to be nothing but a "little vacation", there were two things she could no longer deny: A creeping vulnerability to her soul, and her body.
Concerning– at least the latter– for someone who spent their days fighting foe upon foe.
Or: Childe falling head over heels for an emotionally unavailable astral being

With his hands clutched into hers, she gazed down at him silently. His eyes were devoid of that flicker of light she sought in the stares of Teyvat's inhabitants.
Yet here he was smiling up at her, even in a situation as absurd at this. Even when she wanted to scream, to cry, to pound on his chest with her fists and get it into his rock solid head that he needed to stop being so god damn reckless with his own life.
"I was... I was terrified of losing you."

"Have you ever been kissed?"
Oh fuck.
The words were out of her mouth before she even had time to process it. Goosebumps spread all over her body and by the time she worked up the confidence to look at him, she caught a slight shaking of his head. Her heart pounded in her chest so hard that she could've sworn it was about to tear through her ribcage as she stood up, shakily making her way over to the couch.
Lumine leaned over him slightly, placing her trembling hands at either sides of his head on the backrest he was sat up against.
"Do you...want to be kissed?"

It was Friday night, her friends were probably all out somewhere drinking the night away. And yet, here she was, stuck working on their shared project with her nuisance of a classmate until late in the night. Perhaps if he wasn't so devilishly attractive and the air in between them hadn't been filled with sparks for ages, they actually could've gotten things done today.
Instead, the summer heat and her wandering thoughts led the conversation astray, until both of them had eyes for one thing and one thing only- and it was definitely not Leylines.

Four pale petals and a fifth light blue one surrounded a fragile shimmering core.
"I wasn't aware you were back in Liyue!", he enthusiastically muttered under his breath.
The ginger abruptly stood up straight and looked around for the man that had quietly remained behind him.
"I'm not sure if I'll return to Northland Bank again today. If there is any important paperwork, just leave it on my desk." He waved off the agent and returned his attention to the flower in his hand.
"Looks like I'll be paying someone a visit."

Lumine had sworn to herself that she wouldn't allow any distractions on her journey. She had followed that rule all throughout her previous time in Teyvat. But now that her mental strength was fleeting and the loneliness in her heart steadily grew, a distraction might be just what she needed.
