She wears power suits to her editing job at Velaris Publishing, her hair is always immaculately styled, her apartment has been featured in a “Young Professionals Living in Style” blog post, and she’s been in a relationship with Tomas Mandray—successful lawyer, conventionally attractive, wholly appropriate—for three years.
Past tense on all of that.
Because yesterday, she’d come home early from a work trip to surprise Tomas, only to find him very enthusiastically not surprised, and very enthusiastically occupied with his paralegal, Claire, in their California King bed with the Egyptian cotton sheets Nesta had picked out.
The bed that Tomas had paid for, in the apartment that Tomas’s name was on the lease for, because Nesta had moved in with him eight months ago, instead of looking for a new place together.

She did not belong on an active drill rig in South America.
She did not belong in Cassian's desert, and she certainly didn't belong inside his head. Yet there she was, and until this job was done - and done properly - neither one of them would be getting a moment of peace.
