Summary
Returning to high school as a senior is hard enough on its own, but it’s even more complicated for Will Byers, the quiet art boy who had a terrible accident his junior year. Jane, his twin sister, is being inexplicably cold towards everyone, keeping to herself a lot. Because of this, Will finds himself with Mike Wheeler, his best friend, the wild boy with a hundred and one freckles and hair like the starless night sky who’s always writing terribly beautiful stories, more often than not. But Mike seems to be a bit distant, too. And when Will sneaks into the forest—their forest—surrounding the boarding school, he finds out why. The monsters from Mike’s stories, the ones that Will always paints, have come to life and now the two boys have to make them go away before they destroy the school.
