In the heavy silence of this underground bunker every sound is amplified, loud as a shot. Heinrix can hear each infinitesimal movement Tessarae makes, the whisper of her clothes as she shifts, the heavy exhale of her bitten-off sigh. It tramples his concentration, his every sense zeroing in on this foreign element. She keeps squirming, first with reluctant regularity and then with thoughtless restlessness, the sound of a body lost in troubled dreaming. It scrapes Heinrix’s nerves raw. He ignores it.

Heinrix and the Rogue Trader are forced by circumstances (and an alien virus) into a deeper intimacy than either had planned on. An unfortunate—but surely easy to move past from—incident.
