Lo’ak never truly felt loved by his father, Jake. Jake was always hard on him and said things that really affected him.

After Neteyams death, Lo’ak felt like there was no one left to catch him if he falls. No one there to be his support. No one to love him for him. Jake failed to see his youngest son's pain until it was too late.
All it takes is one surprise visit from a presumably dead Miles Quaritch to change Lo’aks' life forever.
