Rose didn’t really know why, but something inside her was desperately urging for Svetlana Vetrova to simply like her.
Everything she had seen of the woman radiated this cool, indifferent and extremely beguiling energy. A mysterious, kind of sexy vibe that Rose had been trying to embody herself her whole career, but never quite managed to capture or maintain authentically.
The reason why she felt so drawn to Svetlana, was probably because she was someone who had that exact vibe going for her and seemingly didn’t even have to try hard at all. Svetlana looked like a fucking movie star. Rose wanted to look like that and she was a fucking movie star, for god’s sake.

Shane’s anxiety takes a quick backseat to annoyance once more, at being handled like a child instead of a grown man, like he hasn’t been doing this just as long as Ilya, like he needs someone to tell him when to take a break.
Like he deserved to have everything taken away from him because he couldn’t handle it to start with.
“I’m fine,” he says, voice icy.
The step he takes away is too big, farther than he meant to get from Ilya’s side, and the air between them feels both charged and icy.
He isn’t quite bold enough to try and fix it.

Ilya genuinely couldn’t figure out what the fuck to do. He needed to send out an SOS, but he had set his phone down somewhere and had no idea if it was in the sunroom, bedroom, or bathroom, and wasn’t about to go dash around to hunt it down. And as hard as he wracked his brain, he couldn’t come up with a single plausible explanation for his presence in Shane’s summer home other than, “I’m in love with your son. We have been fucking since we were teenagers. We have a ten year plan.”
Instead, what he choked out was, “Sorry. No English.”
