It's 1968, and Ray Reddington, world famous photographer, has traveled to Valentine, Nebraska, to attend the memorial of Harold Cooper, a Navy buddy who has died suddenly. At his arrival in this quaint, quiet little town, Ray realizes that after the horrors of war, the reasons why his military buddy settled here to exist in a serene small town. After the war, Ray, on the other hand, was restless, unsettled and decided to use his photography talents to travel the world, never staying in one place for more than a few days. He'd decided to use his camera to create beauty, instead of horror, such as he witnessed in Anzio, and on the shores of Normandy. So while paying his respects to Harold's lovely wife, Charlene, Ray has decided to photograph this beautiful, untouched patch of America, stay a few days, and then move on.
What he doesn't count on is the presence of the lovely, young, married Elizabeth Keen. Her presence in his life will shift all his priorities, and make him question the reasoning behind his restlessness. Her pure, unbridled courage and sweetness will pull Ray toward an emotion he'd hadn't experienced in many many years: Love.
