Eddie’s lips are at the hinge of his jaw, like he’s testing the waters. It makes Buck brave enough to bring a numb hand up to one of the belt loops on Eddie’s darkwash jeans, thumbing there restlessly—sliding the tips of his fingers under the hem of his obsidian button-down. The skin-to-skin contact is all at once relieving.
“I think we’ve both known what we are for a while now,” Buck goads, hushed; tilting to arch his neck back against the wall, granting Eddie unlimited access, praying he takes the explicit invitation. “You’re my best friend. But this isn’t sustainable.”

A woman at the front desk looks up and smiles brightly.
“Welcome in! Checking in?”
Buck smiles back easy, charming, bright.
“Yeah, Reservation should be under Evan Buckley.”
Eddie doesn’t know why, exactly, but something twists in his chest when the woman laughs softly and types.
“Got it,”
she says, glancing up at Buck.
“One bed room.”
Eddie freezes.
Buck blinks.
“Oh no, that’s wrong. I booked two bed”
The woman tilts her head, clicks a few things.
“It’s showing one king bed.”
Buck’s ears turn pink.
“That’s… weird. I definitely-“
He glances at Eddie.
“I mean, not that I-“
Eddie clears his throat quickly.
“It’s fine.”
“I mean-if that’s all that’s available,”
Eddie says, reaching for the keycard like it’s a lifeline.
“It’s fine.”
The woman smiles knowingly.
Or.Buck and Eddie get invited to a wedding in Colorado and they go as each others dates and feelings get pushed to the edge real fast.
