Cliff had no idea what he had just walked into. He looked down at his watch; he was on time. He looked at his phone, and this was the correct date. For once, he remembered to put it in his phone. It was his old captain's birthday. He looked at the text messages between him and Ilya. Ilya did tell him to walk in when he arrived.
So, what the fuck did he just walk into?
He blinked a few times, then pinched himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. No, not dreaming. This was really happening. What was laid out before him was really happening. He couldn’t turn away. He was mesmerized by the sight before him.

Ilya Rozanov was 19 when Ekaterina was born. Her first memories date back to when she was 4. When he was home, he would spend as much time with her as he could. He would always take her to the park, play with her, and sing her to sleep when he could. He saw the way her parents would ignore her unless people were around who would look down on them. That was the kind of hunter my dad and uncle were; they hunted monsters.
It was Shane who got up this time. It was 1 in the morning, and he needed to make sure his kids were okay. So, he quietly walked to the bedroom and looked through the partially open door. Irina was awake. Her eyes were wide, terror on her face. She was staring at the open window.

Shane sighed with relief as the doors of the elevator closed. Whoever was in the hall probably didn’t see him. He would figure out how to move past the humiliation of sending that text message to Ilya. But first, he needed to get back to the safety of his hotel room.
“That was close,” Shane murmured to himself and slumped against the wall.
The doors of the elevator opened again.
Shane straightened at the sight of Ilya Rozanov, wearing nothing but an unbuttoned pair of slacks, his golden chain, and a phone in his hand.
