Summary
Life is no longer the same for Eddie and Buck. The last seven years of comfort and familiarity are threatened to be washed away and in its place now is a physical seperation by hundred of miles.
But alas, they trudge on.
Buck learns how to love himself amidst loneliness and how to let that be enough.
Eddie grapples with his shifting identity and what it means to be unsure of yourself in a world that seems to be so unforgiving.
Both men find love in one another and in their diverging lives. And even in the weeks and months to come, as they make their way back to one another, they realize that loving themselves is the only foundation their relationship can rest on.
OR: Buck remains in LA with his lingering feelings in this new chapter of his life without Eddie by his side.
Eddie is in Texas working on his relationship with Christopher.
When you are a parent, you are trying to sell the world to your children.
‘Any decent realtor, walking you through a shithole, chirps on about good bones.'
And both Buck and Eddie realize that to love the world, they must first love who they are in it.

Summary
Sometimes love doesn’t knock—it quietly moves in, settles on the couch, makes coffee in the morning, and slips into your heart when you’re too busy dancing around it to notice.
And every great story has a beginning, middle, and end. But not necessarily in that order. Nothing in Eddie Diaz’s or Evan Buckley’s life has happened linearly so far, but it has occurred nevertheless. And them falling in love with one another is not another exception.
OR:
There are better no roommates than Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz, and there is no state more natural for the pair of best friends than living together under one roof.
They have a routine, you see. One they had down before they even lived together, but now that they do, it's like second nature.
Buck, Eddie, and Christopher have a long summer ahead of them living in one house.

Summary
“I heard you two were expanding your family! Another little one at Durand. We were so excited when we saw the enrollment paperwork.” She clasps her hands together. “Theo is an absolute joy. Let me show you what he’s been working on.”
Expanding your family.
Buck opens his mouth to redirect — it's a reflex, the correction sitting right there on his tongue. This isn’t the first time they’ve been mistaken for more than two totally platonic best friends who are both men and also raising children together.
It’s right there, polite and practiced: Oh, we’re not actually—
But suddenly Eddie’s hand is on his back. Not his shoulder this time, but lower. A few inches lower than two totally platonic best friends who are both men and also raising children together would justify.
Eddie’s palm presses flat against the base of Buck’s spine, fingers spread wide like he’s anchoring them both to the same spot.
“Thank you so much,” Eddie says. “We’re really proud of him.”
Or: The totally platonic act of raising not just one, but two kids with your straight best friend.

Summary
Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.
Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.
Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

Summary
The guy leans across the table to hand Buck the card and their fingers touch.
Eddie's vision tunnels.
It's — okay, it's not a touch touch. It's a brush. It's the kind of brush that happens any time two human beings transfer a small object, it is a purely functional hand-to-hand delivery of a business card, and the guy's wife, his lovely wife who Eddie is very grateful for, made the card herself, and Eddie knows all of this, and he’s being totally normal about it.
Eddie yanks on the back of Buck's shirt without meaning to. Buck stumbles back a quarter-step.
"I'm Buck, by the way." Buck recovers, tucks the card into his back pocket, sliding his arm around Eddie's waist. "This is my boyfriend, Eddie."
Boyfriend.
Eddie's whole body loosens another notch.
"Oh, nice to meet you both." The guy sticks his hand out to shake. "I'm Glen."
Or,
Buck is Eddie's boyfriend and Eddie, for one, is over the moon about it.
He's not so sure about this Glen guy, though.a pt. 2 for 'wikihow to be normal about your best friend'

Summary
This is all perfectly applicable to friendship. Friendships require effort. Intentionality. Sometimes you have to watch a minute long Instagram video about attracting men to figure out how to get your male best friend to come back to your house and fall asleep on your couch again. Or in your bed. Either one.
Whatever Buck's comfortable with. Eddie's not picky.
Eddie will take whatever proximity Buck is willing to offer and be grateful for it, and if that sounds desperate then fine, it's a little desperate, but it's friend-desperate, which is a completely different thing than regular desperate.
He replays the video and takes mental notes, formulating a plan that is simple: get Buck's attention. Spend more time with Buck. Stop feeling like his ribcage has been hollowed out with a melon baller every time he goes forty-eight hours without hearing Buck laugh.
Easy and straightforward. He’s got this.
Or,
Five times Eddie tries to show Buck how much he misses him; plus the one time he just says it.Series
