Her fingers dug into Isha’s tanned skin only a little. Just enough to feel the bones beneath her thin skin. Enough to feel something throbbing beneath her fingertips.
Isha was still silent. Her honeyed eyes were accepting. Like she understood. Like she knew what was to come. Maybe she’d been waiting for this.
Jinx sat on the edge of the bed and pulled Isha up to her. She was so small, like she could disappear right beside her. Light like a feather. She was breakable. Maybe this was what the whisper wanted all along. Something soft, something broken, something lost.
Jinx takes what she thinks she wants. Isha takes what she needs to be given.
