    Summary

Ilya was about to be promoted to the head of the Boston office for Lockhart Gardner publishings in Toronto. If only his visa wasn't expired.

Shane was his long suffering assistant who'd just been passed for a promotion. And who had to just cancel going home for his grandmother's 90th birthday. BUT. He was Canadian.

Ilya needed a visa, Shane needed a promotion. What if they married each other and solved two problems with one ring?

    Summary

Shane wants to figure out if he's gay before he gets drafted—and no, the way he felt when Ilya Rozanov smirked at him with a cigarette between his lips in Saskatchewan has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, the random guy he hooks up with to try and make sure one way or another takes a picture, and Shane gets outed before the draft. In the ensuing scandal, he goes seventh overall, to Ottawa.

It turns out, having the worst thing you can think of happen to you when you're seventeen years old can end up being pretty liberating. And land you an unexpected best friend.

    Summary

It’s dark, and Ilya’s not quite sure where he is.

His entire body is numb. His shoes are soaking wet from trudging lazily through the snow. His nose is running, and his lips are chapped.

Selfishly, he wishes Shane would fuss over him now. Pull him close, whisper “I forgive you” even though he shouldn’t, because Ilya would never change, because something inside him- in his family line, in his soul- was broken.

Ilya wondered how long ago it had clicked- when Shane had realized that Ilya wormed his way into this country and tricked the Hollanders into caring for him, then returned the favor by botching their language and leaving a trail of mess in his wake. He still can't help but wonder if that will be part of his punishment- being doomed to miss him in death, too.

or: Ilya’s mostly been able to cope with the fact that he’ll never be able to articulate himself fully in this country- but he’s also never been good at talking about feelings in the first place.

"I'm tired" is the best he's got. It definitely doesn't capture what's going on in his head, and Shane can't read minds.

    Summary

After the Tuna Meltdown, Ilya and Shane never rekindle things at All Star Weekend 2017.
A series of losses (no MCD, don’t worry) to Ilya’s life in Boston lead to him signing with the Buffalo Blizzards.
Although single, Shane comes out to his team. The Voyageurs are less than supportive. Montreal trades him to Buffalo in exchange for first draft pick in 2018.
When practice starts in September, things are awkward but fine.
But it’s Buffalo, so of course there is a big snowstorm, which leads to 48 hours of forced proximity.
