Arthur’s stomach fluttered. Three little men walked with their feet against the lining, little kicks of heat licking up his skin, making him aware of all of the textures of the bedspread laid against his knees now. Making him aware of the sound of Noel’s breathing moving into the secret of the air. The space between one moment and the next where time grew outstretched like caramel chewy candy, golden and deep in the flavors of whisky in both of their throats.
In the darkness, Noel’s crouched figure looks like something from a dream. His feet are bare. The moonlight over his face gives him an indistinct glow, like multiple pieces of him are slipping in and out of place all at once. His eyes are big… warm, and brown.
“Noel,” Arthur said, tongue loosened. “Can I… feel you? You—your face? I want to know what you look like.”

The more that I think about it, the more I believe in the small possibility that my unfertilized eggs may be safe for Grace to consume. It’s at least worth trying, I resolve, as I watch him cry himself to sleep for the fourth consecutive cycle. His stomach is constricting, growling loudly. He’s been unable to keep the coma slurry from resurfacing once again.
I can detect his body shutting down. I decide I can't allow this to continue. I won't allow myself to sit by and watch idly as he dies in front of me, like so many others have before him.
Unfortunately, there is only one method that I can use to procure Eridian eggs for Grace's consumption.
