“I have to find him.” Eddie croaks, more tears escaping against his will.
“We will,” Chim says, carefully rubbing a bit of feeling back into Eddie’s free wrist before moving over to the one still in restraints. “We will Eddie.” Eddie knows that Athena and Maddie will move heaven and earth to find Buck, knows how hard they are working even now.
It's not the same though, because he was supposed to be Eddie’s to protect. This happened on Eddie’s watch and now he can’t even sit up without his vision graying out. He’s useless to Buck like this, and if he can’t have Buck’s back he doesn't even know what he’s good for.

Before, it had been a mantra, a desperate cry to powers he doesn’t even believe in, Buck would be ok because he had to be. Eddie has not just stumbled across half of New Mexico, concussed and afraid, to find him for Buck to not be ok.

Or, maybe eat something first if you're gonna chase your kidnapped best friend across half the county.

It’s a warm and comforting train of thought, and the sound of his phone beginning to ring only enforces the feeling when he glances over and sees Buck’s name on the screen. He picks it up with a little flutter in his chest, answering even before his thumb has finished swiping to answer.
“Hey,” he says, turning to lean his back against the kitchen counter, gaze wandering to Chris’s bowed head haloed in the lamplight. “I was just—-“
A sound that might have been his name, if not for the soul deep agony that ripped it apart, echos down the line and Eddie’s entire body goes cold.

Summary
Buck cradles him, almost, moves Eddie’s head to rest gently in the crevice of his elbow. He doesn’t stop touching him, feather-light all over, from his cheek to his hair to his waist to his thigh and all the way back up again. Like he’s trying to fit a lifetime of love in a single movement. Like he’s finally starting to accept that this is all they’ve been allowed. Like he can see the color draining from Eddie’s face despite him just having been shocked back to life.
