This is my response to all the soulmate fics where Arthur just ignored Merlin until he is in control. In real life when you ignore someone, a vacuum is created and someone has to fill the vacuum. If not Arthur, then someone else will stand beside Merlin and provide the emotional support he needs.
This is my advice to all those who are in love: Don't wait. You will lose out.

Galiad fell to his knees, ears ringing. He never should have tried to kill the King. It had been a stupid, reckless decision, and he could not believe he’d been so easily bribed into it.
He had let his ego get the better of him, and now, here he was, on his knees in the throne room, fighting back tears, trying not to throw up all over the stone floor, begging for his life to be spared.
And here’s the real kicker; he wasn’t even on trial for the attempted murder of his King. His Majesty didn’t know about that.

Merlin opened his mouth. A noise unlike any sound Arthur had ever heard escaped from it. Loud and rumbling and guttural, inhuman, and in no way, shape, or form could actually be coming from his manservant.
But it was. And Merlin was speaking.

For a minute, there was complete silence—a silence in which Arthur just stared from behind a tree in an incomprehensive daze.
