Summary
Ghost isn’t so far gone to put his face on the toilet seat, but at this point, he can admit he’s cuttin’ it fuckin’ close.
He spits out another mouthful of bile-yellow gunk, his ragged breaths filling the crawl space the military calls a bathroom, and collapses bodily against the wall. He slings his arms over his knees, still stinging from the harsh landing on the floor, and lets his mouth hang loose; breath smelling rank even to himself. He sighs and digs his head back into the cold tiles.
It’s getting worse.

Summary
An alternate first meeting, where Ghost and Soap meet each other in the field under infinitely worse circumstances than either of them would have liked:
Ghost wakes up in a pit under a building with a bomb attached to him, certain he's going to die. Soap, an EOD tech amongst his other specialties, is the only person available to at least try to save him. It should be fraught, and tense, and miserable all around, and it is; a whole lot of Ghost slowly losing his mind while Soap does everything he can to save his life. But it would probably be easier if Ghost wasn't a stress-flirter, and if Soap wasn't the kind of endlessly competent that he loved, and if, by virtue of their situation, they didn't keep ripping open each other's wounds and then patching each other back up again after.

“Do you really think I’d let you storm away?” Ghost scoffed, following him in and locking the door behind him. “You’re not some bloody teenager. Talk it out.”
“Well, I thought you’d embarrassed me enough and would know better,” Soap said sourly.
He was rewarded with the slightest squinting of Ghost’s eyes, as if he was wincing. “I didn’t mean to,” he said after a moment. “I…misspoke.”
Soap raised a disbelieving eyebrow. “So, what were ye tryin’ to say?”
“I was trying to say I can treat you better. It doesn’t bother me.”
