Summary

With the identity of Lord Vader's long lost son revealed, every being of some consequence from Core to Outer Rim is busy plotting their own schemes for Luke Skywalker. The young rebel is trying his best to navigate the new relationship with his father, and scramble a plan or two of his own. Admiral Piett and various unsuspecting Imperial citizens are entangled in the drama. Vader acts completely unpredictable, the threads of destiny are tossed up in the air, and the Galaxy holds its breath.

Summary
There is little he can promise, short of her life for her daughter's, that will even begin to sound like a reasonable sacrifice. If not for Mathilde, Madeleine might throw the cup of tea in his face. That would be too easy, giving him what he expects. Resistance can be corrected. She isn’t going to make this easy or enjoyable for him. But even so, she finds no trace of amusement in his expression. He is sincere, or perhaps that is what he expects her to take away from his statement. "You want a kept woman," Madeleine states.
Safin's expression lightens. He isn't upset. Amused, really. "I require companionship, not a concubine. All living things do."
"Yes," she says, biting back the urge to say something she will regret. It's not only Mathilde she needs to fight for. "Humans do require companionship."
Or: Mathilde earns her freedom, in exchange for Madeleine's captivity. Safin and Madeleine reach an understanding, and then the situation gets a little weirder.
