So Rook fell silent, heart pounding wildly. “I am much older than you. It is why I didn’t fall on my knees for you the moment I met you in the Necropolis and your earnest compliment of my helm made me blush like a schoolboy. How could such a bold, daring, beautiful young woman ever return my affections?”

Emmrich continued, and his fingers tightened on her hip almost possessively. “Rook. Renya.” She shuddered at the use of her given name. “If there is any hope for a foolish old man, would you tell me?” He traced her cheekbone, down her neck, coming to a rest to cup the back of her head. “The beautiful blushes you favor me with, do they mean you feel the same way? Or that you are too shy to tell me no?”
