I’m not sure right when it started, but the shift was definitely there. October 1985, I wasn't sure who to tell or if I should tell anyone. I'd never seen Robin so distant before. I mean I knew her, I knew how she was when she was sad, when she had a crush, but this…this was so different it was scary. like she was a switch that got flipped off.

“Please don’t take her,” Steve begs, even as it falls on deaf ears. They keep walking, unrelenting.
“Steve!” Robin’s voice cracks, fear breaking through it as she scuffles with her captors. He can’t stop them. There’s nothing he can do.
“I’ll find you!” Steve yells, hoping she knows he means it. Hoping that she knows he’ll do everything he can to get her home safe. “I promise I’ll come find you!”
The door slams shut.
Robin is gone.
Steve isn't the only one who gets tortured by the Russians.

There. That tangle of thick vines… she recognised it. That was right by where Steve had been attacked earlier. She moved quickly over to it, spotting the three dead bats clumped together, black blood spreading from their bodies.
If that was where Steve had been attacked, that meant that the gate was just a few feet behind her. Nancy whipped around, stepping blindly forwards, eyes raking over the ground ahead of her.
The gate was nowhere to be seen.
They were too late.
“Oh shit.”
