How about a “our asshole mutual friends set us up on a blind date and didn’t tell us it was a blind date, so instead of getting to know each other we spent the entire ‘date’ scheming against them and decided an awesome way to get back at them would be to pretend to date and then have a horrendous breakup but now that we’re two months into this charade we’re not sure what’s real and what’s fake anymore” au.
Featuring Steve and Bucky being obnoxiously in love (externally) and wallowing in angst (internally). Plus, scheming, kissing, and various dates both real and imaginary.

Steve. That's cute. Steve's really fucking cute, and he's falling into step beside Bucky on the way to his apartment.
"Bucky," Bucky remembers to say after a noticeable pause.
"Huh. And you didn't go with FuckyBucky for your handle?"
"I really don't even want to talk about my handle," Bucky admits, and when Steve laughs it's loud and it makes his nose crinkle up. Bucky can barely believe this is happening.

Summary
Steve's holding Bucky's drink out to him and he's looking at Bucky in that way he does. It makes Bucky want to cover his face. It makes him want to peek inside of himself and see if he can actually spot the butterflies.
"Here you go," Steve says. "Extra hot, so be careful, 'kay?"
"Okay, thanks..." Bucky says. And then he has to swallow again, and his throat feels awfully tight but he practiced this last night and he can do this. He can. He opens his mouth again and adds, "Steve."

Every morning Bucky walks to a nearby coffee shop as a kind of exposure therapy. He isn't going there for the coffee, and he's not actually sure he's going there for the therapy anymore, but he's definitely going there for Steve Rogers' smile.
