Summary
This is an honest, unfiltered story about an adorkable, quirky, a bit hormonal, but still—in contrast to her age—quite mature teenage girl who has found herself falling in love with an older, at times grumpy, but mellow man who once was just a stranger to her, and who—regardless of his constant inner fights with the morals—realizes that this firecracker of a girl managed to charm her way into his heart a long, long time ago. If only he had understood his feelings sooner.
As the 1st chapter closely adheres to the actual events of the game, the subsequent chapters will deviate from canon, becoming a work of fiction. While I aim to stay true to the core characteristics and facts about Ellie and Joel that fans of the game know and love (except for the slippery slope where they fall in love) I am taking creative liberties. To wrap this up, the essence of who Ellie and Joel are at their core will remain intact, even as I explore an alternate path where romance blossoms between them.

Summary
Meeting Ellie brought back to life a part of himself Joel had buried with Sarah, but there are moments like this that make him question if that part came back malformed. Instead of a holy resurrection, something grotesque and monstrous has returned in its place, clawing its way from the grave.
It's unfair, he knows, to consider her something akin to his salvation or his reckoning. She's just a girl. A girl who's suffered so much loss and despair. A girl he'd burn the world down to ash to protect.
