Summary
Migs Mayfield has always had a tendency to babble. Especially when he was nervous. In one timeline, when the buff Rebel Marshal lets him go, he decides for once that discretion is the better part of valor and just goes. We all know how that story ends.
In this one, a single offhanded comment changes everything.

Din stiffened. Was Luke...snorting?
"Oh, I'm….oh…" Luke's guffaws faded into soft chuckles as he tried to regain control. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to come out like that," he said, his voice fighting to return to normal. "I know you're a Mandalorian, and it's probably very difficult to rob you. But just because some kid tried to steal–"
"Successfully stole,” Din corrected flatly. His brows knitted beneath his helmet. “From me. Without me noticing."
----------
Din's time on Nevarro was supposed to be brief; he just needed to collect for his bounties, check in on Cara, and repair his ship. But now he was in this mess. A little smart-mouthed chakaar with his payment.
And you know what he doesn't need? Yet another kid to care about.
Too bad Grogu has other plans.

Summary
"What motivates you, Mando?" A bounty hunter asked him once.
Din thought of the ship they were getting around in, a small thing bought and paid for by the covert for his use. For him to provide. Would they be able to recover it when he died? Would they have it to pass down to their next beroya? Had his work thus far already paid for the price of the ship or would he carry some sliver of that debt under his armor, nestled beside his heart until he died?
Din had blinked at the rodian under the safety of his helm.
"Death." He told her.
