No birds flew above, no fish were swept up in boat currents, and if Hajime squinted enough, he could still see wisps of smoke curling up from the mainland. But as unnerving as the sight remained, he almost didn’t mind it, because he knew now that it was temporary. They did it. They won.

Summary
