    Etho isn't even that drunk when he finds himself tugged to the club's bathroom by a pretty stranger. There is a wall behind them, and Etho tries to stop himself from thinking about how many sweaty people fucked against it before them, the same night. He wonders, dizzy with anticipation, if they are going to add to the tally.

    This, he thinks, his mother will never know about.

    Hire was a mild way of putting it. Hire implied a level of choice in the matter.

    Doc has a lead to striking a blow at a network of hybrid hunters and traffickers. All it requires is for Etho to face a part of his past he would much rather leave behind.
