“I hope you’re going to tell me that you’re in a loving, committed, long-term relationship,” Jen said.
“Well. No,” Sidney said. “We’re—it’s a casual thing.”
“Not anymore,” Jen said. “Congratulations, you’re in love.”

Summary
Even as he stalked to the stairwell and rushed down three flights of stairs, his brain stuttered to reconcile the information he’d just been given over the phone. But his instincts? Oh, his instincts were insatiably ablaze. The man who had dared put hands on his wife? His sweet, beautiful, gentle wife? That piece of shit was going to pay for his transgressions.

It was hot, and Sid felt kind of weird about thinking it was hot. This guy was screwing himself on camera for money. That wasn’t really Sid’s scene.

Summary
There was no reason for him to intervene. They didn’t know each other. Not in any meaningful way. A brief exchange in a stairwell did not justify involvement. She might not even remember him. From her perspective, he would be a stranger—a large, older man in a car pulling up unprompted in the dark, in the rain. There were variables there he couldn’t control. Unknowns in how she would react, how she would interpret it.
He didn’t like unknowns.
He also didn’t like the image of her standing there, soaked through, waiting in the rain.
The irritation came quickly—not at her, but at the situation. At himself.
“Fuck,” he said under his breath.
He signaled left.
