The coughing catches him off guard. Castiel remembers it, from his few months as a human, but now he’s not human anymore, he’s an angel, and his vessel has no business coughing. Yet there’s no fighting it, even as he stifles the noise with his mouth. The angel hunches over, feeling the absurd need to gasp for air he doesn’t need, when the small object forces its way out of his mouth. Castiel stills, before he straightens again.
“Hey Cas, you okay?”
Or: The Hanahaki disease is a punishment made by God for angels who fall too far for humanity. Castiel had this coming for a long time.
