Summary
Greer fits Shaw for a neural transmitter and her world turns to crap. Used as Samaritan's guinea pig, Shaw's brain's chemistry is forcibly altered and she's left to face the world without any of her usual defenses. Under such circumstances, even rescue doesn't bring the happy ending she'd want. Shaw is forced to find her way, rebuild with the Team, rebuild with Root, and find a new way to a good end.

Summary
Shaw comes home in pieces. The Machine fights to kill Samaritan until Her last breath. Root bleeds out on the side of the road. Rinse and repeat.
Reeling in the aftermath of Root's death, Shaw strikes a deal with the Machine: simulation after simulation, Shaw gets another chance to save Root from fate and live out a someday. Caught in the memory loop of Root's final days, Shaw and the Machine begin to wonder if there's more than death behind the curtain. Past and future dreams point toward a message only Root could send, and the Machine sets to untangling the threads of the hacker who seems to only exist in Shaw's head—before Shaw disappears completely.
