It’s weird how it kind of creeps up on you, the realisation that she’s not just really talented, she’s also really pretty. But you’re used to wishing you had her height, her movement, her spin, so it feels natural to think wistfully about her eyes and her hands as well.
(It takes you longer - a lot longer - to realise that maybe you don’t want to be her at all.)

None of them should be here. The face in the framed photo at the front is too young and Iga is a widow at twenty-six and it all feels so, so wrong, a funeral through a funhouse mirror.
Iga's eyes are red. Coco looks anywhere else.

Summary
"If I don't remember, it can't be that bad."
"Oh, fuck you."
"You wish," Kara shoots back, a grin tugging at her lips. "Come on—just let me in, babe. Please?"
"You don't get to 'babe' me," Kendra says with a point of her finger, jabbing Kara lightly in the chest. "You left, Kara. No text, no call, not even a note. That's shitty. You know it's shitty."
"We both agreed this isn't anything serious!"
"That doesn't mean I don't worry about you," Kendra fires back, and her voice cracks, just slightly. "You disappear for days. Weeks. You show up at my window like nothing even happened."

Or: Kara crashes her ship on her way back to Earth, and stumbles into confronting some uncomfortable truths. And feelings. A lot of feelings.

Summary
“I’m one of the lit managers,” the woman explains.
“Yet you can’t manage to take a hint," Carol retorts. "I’m not in the mood for conversation.”
It’s meant to be rude — to get this beautiful, annoying woman to leave her alone once and for all — but instead, the corner of her mouth curves into a smirk. Carol hates how sexy she finds it. “Clever wordplay,” she commends. “You really are a writer.”
Or: After sending dozens of query letters with no success, Carol reluctantly goes to a literary speed-dating event to try to find representation. There, she meets Helen.

Bookmarker's Notes
Even if she has no future as an author, Carol will keep writing. Carol must keep writing. It is the only thing she can do even somewhat competently, after all, and her characters are the only people she has. (It is so lonely when nothing in your life is real.)
